Do I need a Master’s (MS) degree before applying for the PhD program?

No. You can apply directly to the PhD program.

Do I need a background in biology?

A background in biology is not required but is encouraged for better understanding of public health and medical applications. Our school offers PUBHLT 2015 Biology in Public Health which provides an introduction to the biological foundations of many systems that are important in public health. 

What are the prerequisites for mathematics and social sciences?

The math prerequisite usually means calculus I and II for a total of 6 credits. There is no social science prerequisite for biostatistics programs. You can select n/a in the social science prerequisite field on your application.

Do you have a rolling process or collect all of the application materials and then process them together?

We have a rolling process for MS applications with a January 15th priority deadline for international and domestic applicants. The PhD program has a December 15th priority deadline and hard January 5th deadline.

What is the deadline for applications for the Fall term?

PhD: priority deadline December 15, hard deadline January 5
MS: priority deadline January 15

Can I start classes in Spring or Summer terms?

No. We only accept applications for the Fall term.
