Things to Do and See on Campus

"Bouquet Gardens exterior"Bouquet Gardens

Scholars will reside in Bouquet Gardens, blocks from the heart of campus. Consisting of nine garden-style apartment buildings featuring 172 units. Each is air-conditioned and furnished and includes a kitchen, living room and dining area.

From the Nationality Rooms to the Cathedral Climbers, and a vast amount of learning in between, the tallest educational building in the western hemisphere is something to see.

Move In

Your check in location will be Bouquet Gardens Building D, 307 Oakland Avenue 15213
Plan to arrive between 1 and 5 p.m. Note: Check in closes at 5 p.m. If you arrive late you will need to check in at Bouquet J at the guard station. At check in you will receive a Panther Utility Card (PUC) and you will need to sign that you received the card. This will give you access to your assigned residence hall and room. This card is active and valid only to your assigned residence room. You may also use it to ride Pitt Shuttles. It will not give access to PRT buses, gyms or other spaces on campus.

Local Shopping

Groceria Merante

family-owned Italian market and deli. Located in South Oakland, close to campus. Closed on Sundays! 

Aldi

Several nearby locations of this discount grocery store include 5631 Baum Boulevard or 2628 East Carson Street in the South Side. 

Giant Eagle

This local supermarket is 20 minutes from Oakland on a 61 bus to the Squirrel Hill neighborhood. There is also a Giant Eagle at the Waterfront, and one on Centre Avenue in Shadyside, a 71A or 71C ride from Oakland. 

Salem's Market

An authentic and affordable international grocery, Salem's Market has locations in North Oakland and the Strip District.

Jamil's Global Village

A community and marketplace that offers artisan wares and books that celebrate black culture and history. Near Target in East Liberty - an easy bus ride

Pittsburgh Waterfront

Take a 61 bus from Oakland to this plaza with a Target, grocery store and much more.  

Ikea

You probably need a car to get to (and from!) Ikea, but it is also near Robinson Town Centre, Walmart and every other type of mall/store one could need! 

Goodwill

A quick bus ride to East Carson Street in the South Side. There is also a smaller Goodwill in East Liberty. 

Thrift$burgh

A student-run thrift store on campus, not far from Pitt Public Health.
